We went on a little road trip this week up to Spokane. Derrick's contract with the hospital here in Pocatello is coming to an end next month, so we're currently in search of our next great adventure. We're still hopeful that the great adventure we're seeking will keep us right here in Pocatello (I never thought I'd say that!), but in these crazy times, we just can't be too prepared, and we can't have too many options!
So I've always heard that Spokane is such a beautiful place with so much to do. And I was actually somewhat looking forward to visiting. I mean, it's a total hiker's paradise, right? And judging by the pictures that I googled, the city was going to be pretty cool too.
Not bad, right? And just a hop, skip, and a jump away (that equates to about 25 minutes), is beautiful Lake Couer d' Alene'. Who wouldn't love this?
Unfortunately, we didn't love it at all. The Spokane we saw looked nothing like the pictures above. There are some nice surrounding areas, but I'm not confident that we could afford to live in any of them. But we do have friends that really loved it there, so there must be more to it than we gathered in our short visit. We were really tired, and perhaps we didn't give Spokane a fare shake, and just maybe we'll need to reconsider (hopefully WITHOUT the kids next time)!
Gotta keep ALL options open!

Spokane! I'm not saying this to convince you to move there, BUT we lived there for a year and loved it. If we didn't love Pocatello and it's location for family, it would be #1 on our list of places to live. I hope you can stay right here. Hopefully the contract will be re-signed and you can stay.
maybe it was the feeling telling you it was not the right place- not because it wasn't wonderful- only because there are greener pastures somewhere else. Or you were grumpy. lol
I haven't been to Spokane, but I LOVE Washington! You should definitely not rule it out - it would be fun to live close enough to visit!
Not Spokane, Kelli. Phoenix.
Phoenix.
By the way.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY...A DAY LATE.....THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL.....sorry we forgot to call but your visit was great.....ALWAYS....mom s.....
You guys are such dorks!!! If you didn't just love it there, then maybe that was more of the spirit telling you that Spokane just isn't "home". Of course you weren't there long enough for anyone to tell you ANYTHING!!! :0)
Mike served his mission in Spokane, actually spent a lot a time in Couer d'Alene and loves it there.
But I really think you ought to consider a job further south say like...in St. George. :)
and p.s. Salties in Spokane is an awesome restaurant--hit it on the next round, the one WITHOUT children.
We used to live in Missoula (which is 3 hours away from Spokane) we thought the area was beautiful. We went to Spokane a few times because the closest Olive Garden was there. Good luck in deciding.
I have family there and they love it!
